Nearly 40 years after his death, Elvis Presley has broken the record for the solo artist with the most #1 albums on the British charts. The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll latest release, The Wonder of You, became his 13th album to ascend to the top of the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart after moving 63,500 units in its debut week.
Presley previously was tied with Madonna with 12 chart-topping albums. The Beatles still hold the record for the most overall #1 albums with 15.
The Wonder of You is Presley’s second consecutive release that pairs archival vocal performances with newly recorded orchestral accompaniment by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the songs featured on the collection are versions of Elvis’ 1959 chart-topper “A Big Hunk o’ Love,” other classics like “Suspicious Minds” and the title track, and renditions of “Amazing Grace,” “Always on My Mind” and “Let It Be Me.” Presley’s previous album featuring The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, 2015’s If I Can Dream, also topped the Official Albums Chart.
The Wonder of You reaching the top of the chart also gives Elvis the record for the largest span between first and last #1 albums by an individual artist in the U.K. Presley notched his first #1 album on the Official Albums Chart with Elvis Presley Rock N’ Roll in 1956, almost 60 years ago.
